Frequently Asked Questions
Training can be a daunting thing to dive into, let's take the edge off.
What age can we begin training?
We can begin puppy training for dogs between two months and five months of age utilizing leash guidance and treat training. Adult dog training will introduce prong and E-collars beyond five months old!
Are you positive reinforcement?
Through this training, we'll be taking a balanced approach. We want to make sure that while we reward everything we want to see more of out of our pups, we are also setting clear and fair boundaries and expectations in what we want them doing instead of their more naughty behaviors!
Will my dog always need to use the prong or E collars?
While many dogs transition to regular flat collars and a heavy lack of E collars. What I do see time and time again, is dogs consciously going back to their old mischievous ways, as soon as means of accountability fades away. A long way of saying that they know what they can get away with. These tools will always be there to help you, so get the most out of them!
Do you offer guarantees?
The degree of reform with each dog varies as there is no "one-size-fits-all" with any training. What I am here to do is provide you a solid means of communicating with your dog and the tools/knowledge to help streamline that process. Your dog will have a much better understanding of commands and guidance by the end of our lessons but the real progress lies in how you apply the knowledge in between and after our lessons. I can form a great relationship with your dog, but your application of everything is what will roll into their daily structure, understanding of how they fit in with the family/house, their obedience, and overall sense of belonging, security, and confidence.
How far do you travel?
My home base is in the beautiful Fenton, MI and I service within 60 miles from there for training (roughly Bay City down to Dundee, and Portland to Port Huron) I currently offer a 25 mile range for walking but am on track to extend that to 35 miles! That will be updated ASAP and you are welcome to touch base with me to get on a waitlist in the meantime!
What if I need refreshers?
When you enroll in any pack of lessons greater than one, my line will always be open to you! If advice via phone call or text doesn't get things on track, we can get more lessons in order!
Do you offer boarding?
The degree of rehabilitation or reform with each dog varies as there is no "one-size-fits-all" with training. What I am here to do is provide you a solid means of communicating with your dog and the tools/knowledge to help streamline that process.
I'm concerned with my dog working around other dogs.
When training or working around other dogs, we never push an unsafe boundary. When it comes to walking groups of dogs, I pay plenty of mind to positioning dogs in a way that minimizes any risk to one member of the pack or another. Through lessons, our goal is more focused around desensitization and guiding the dog through distractions like other dogs. That means face-to-face encounters aren't on the agenda!
How will commands like "sit", or "down" help me to handle my dog's aggression or anxiety?
When our dogs feel a situation isn't under control, they will often take the reigns and act on the impulses they feel they need to. What we need in order to take that burden of overthinking and making decisions from their shoulders: is to provide leadership. We provide leadership through providing them with instruction. Effective instruction lies within applying commands and holding our dogs accountable to expectations.
What if my dog bites you???
Wouldn't be the first time. Don't worry about my own occupational hazards!
